SMHR LIVED EXPERIENCE RESEARCH AWARD

The SMHR Lived Experience Research Award recognises people with lived experience of mental health issues leading mental health research. The award is open to all people with lived experience of mental health issues who have led mental health research as a lay or academic researcher. Lived experience is defined as personal experience of mental ill-health (consumer) or experience as an informal carer/family member.

Applicants are invited to respond to the selection criteria below and outline their contributions to SMHR (e.g., participation on committees, conference participation).

Selection Criteria:
Applicants are invited to demonstrate their leadership in mental health research focused on lived experience perspectives. Submissions will be scored on (a) the relevance of the research to people with lived experience of mental health issues; (b) the active inclusion of people with lived experience in the research process; and (c) the contribution of the applicant’s work to the mental health knowledge base. 

Details of the Award: The award includes a medal, $1000 prize money and payment of conference registration fees at the 2024 annual SMHR conference. The awardee and their work will be featured on the SMHR website.
